The present paper analyses the phonetic challenges of Albanian students while learning Romanian as a foreign language, intensively. Generally, the Romanian phonetic system does not represent a major issue for Albanian speakers, but some problematic sounds have been noticed, as well as the grapheme-phoneme correspondence, which could negatively impact the fluency and clarity of oral communication.
The first part of the paper illustrates a contrastive presentation of Romanian and Albanian phonetic systems, followed by a phonetic analysis of an oral corpus (consisting of both isolated words and spontaneous monologues, containing the sounds under investigation) made in PRAAT. The final part focuses on didactic suggestions, that could be used in order to improve pronunciation and develop the speaking competence in Romanian.
