Navigating Stance and Synthesis: A Learner Corpus Analysis of Spoken Citations in Online Postgraduate Multimodal Assessments

ABSTRACT

As digital university assessments expand, online postgraduate pre-sessional students must master nuanced spoken academic citations within virtual environments. This longitudinal action research evaluates a digital "micro-modelling" intervention using the DATA framework (Date, Author, Title, Authority) to scaffold oral attribution during a fully online pre-sessional programme. Utilising a specialised pre- and post-intervention learner corpus compiled from digital recordings, this study tracks shifts in how postgraduates employ advanced academic lexical bundles to project disciplinary stance fluidly on screen. Corpus analysis demonstrates that targeted online scaffolding mitigates anxiety regarding virtual delivery and strict time constraints, offering a replicable framework for digital EAP practitioners.
