PRESENTATION TITLE
PRESENTATION TITLE
The Virtual Mirror: A Multimodal, Affective Approach to Scaffolding Remote Teacher Reflection
ABSTRACT
The aim of this session is to present research insights about the application of affective reflective practice as a data collection method in remote 1EAP teaching contexts. This research method integrates multimodal inter(action) analysis, critical incident identification and Gibbs’ reflective cycle. In this regard, the presentation will provide an overview of the stages involved in affective reflective practice while empirically exemplifying the application of the method. To illustrate the reflection process, data will be drawn from a study of 1EAP practitioners’ challenges navigating a crisis-driven transition to videoconferencing, marking their first experience facilitating emergency distance learning.
